1. Blue Train - Africa

Arguably one of the world’s most iconic and luxurious rail journeys, the Blue Train between Pretoria and Cape Town affords incredible vistas as you pass through the magnificent Cape Winelands region. The train’s signature livery of blue and gilded motifs cuts a dramatic shape as it slices through the breathtaking Winelands scenery.

Many passengers choose to extend their rail journey (which either begins or ends in Cape Town) by scaling the majestic Table Mountain. The rocky peak affords unrivalled views over the city as well as the nearby wine regions, The Atlantic and Indian Ocean beyond.



2. Venice Simplon Orient Express - Europe

Just the opulent, vintage interiors on board the Venice Simplon are a sight for sore eyes. Arguably Europe’s most romantic train, its gleaming walnut walls and plush furnishings make it a luxurious and exclusive speakeasy in motion, transporting you back in time to the roaring 20s. 3. The Ghan - Australia

Australia’s vast and diverse landscapes offer some of the most incredible views in the world and it’s ‘national treasure’ of a train; The Ghan, spans some of the sights that epitomise the iconic outback terrains. As part of your journey on board The Ghan, passengers stop in the revered outback town of Alice Springs for an escorted exploration of the spiritual site of Ayers Rock. You’ll explore the sacred rock, locally known as Uluru, before watching its red sandstone deepen into crimson colours in the magnificent changing light of the desert sunset.



4. Jacobite Train - Scotland

A J.K Rowling-esque icon, the Jacobite Train, which is used as the ‘Hogwarts Express’ during the filming of Harry Potter, offers romantic scenes which conjure magic enough for a mere muggle. Setting off from the shadows of the towering splendour of Ben Nevis, you’ll trundle through heather-clad highland mountainscapes and over the famous Glenfinnan viaduct as the views from the windows of this magnificent steam locomotive leave you spellbound. 



5. Glacier and Bernina Express - Europe

Spanning the most scenic valleys, glittering lakes, snow-clad mountains, tunnels and viaducts in the swiss alps, the Glacier and Bernina Express train journeys afford some of the most screensaver-worthy backdrops you can encounter by rail travel. Arguably the most picture-perfect outlook manifests itself as you thunder across the famous Landwasser Viaduct, an impressively imposing arched railway bridge which curves a limestone seam between two towering mountains.
